New location for the wheelchair platform

For the last two years our platform for wheelchair users was located at the festival foreground to offer an easy access for all wheelchair users and to allow a perfect view over all three stages from one spot at the festival ground. With that we wanted to increase inclusion and make the Wacken Open Air as barrier-free as possible.

Recently we have gotten some feedback that this platform tends to give our visitors more a sense of exclusion rather than inclusion. Because of that we received many requests to change the location of this platform. The ombudsman for persons with disabilities of the Steinburg district has been informed about this fact and has been asked to get in contact with us due to these circumstances. It seems like our visitors would rather go into the Infield than watch all the shows from the platform at the foreground.

We know that there is no chance to make everyone happy. Still we try our best! Our visitors should keep in mind that this is still a festival ground.

Due to the ongoing requests for change, we decided to relocate our platforms back into the Infield to include the wheelchair users even better. At the same time the platform at the foreground will not be provided any more. There will be one platform at the True Stage and another one at the Party Stage. Only wheelchair users will get access to these platforms. Accompaniers are only allowed to help them to enter the platform.

We hope we have helped you with this information and wish you a great time at Wacken Open Air.
